Frequently Asked Questions
How tall is the fence?
The Fido Fence poles measure 1 metre high, with the mesh fence panels measuring 820mm high.
What is the fence made from?
Fido Fence panels are made from a heavy-duty, tear-resistant PVC mesh. Reinforced fibreglass rods are positioned every 500mm along the panel to provide extra support and help prevent the fence from sagging.
These rods also give the fence additional support if your dog puts their paws up against the top of the mesh. However, we don’t recommend allowing or encouraging your dog to jump up against the fence, as Fido Fence is designed as a portable containment system rather than a rigid fence.
How much does Fido Fence weigh?
The weight will vary depending on the size of your setup.
Our Small Fido Fence includes 3 panels and weighs approximately 12kg.
Our Large Fido Fence includes 4 panels and weighs approximately 16.3kg.
Freestanding options add 2kg.
Each additional panel adds approximately 4kg.
How does Fido Fence attach to my caravan?
For standard caravans with a ground clearance of up to 600mm, we recommend using the included mounting brackets. These are attached directly to your caravan, and the Fido Fence poles simply slide onto the brackets to hold them securely in place.
For caravans with a clearance above 600mm — or if you would prefer not to attach brackets to your van — we offer our Tall Van Setup. This is a completely freestanding option that is secured into the ground alongside your caravan.
How does the mesh skirt attach to my caravan?
Each Fido Fence setup includes a lightweight PVC mesh skirt to close off the space underneath your caravan.
The skirt has eyelets along the top and connects to the Fido Fence poles on either side using the included bungee cords through the 10mm eyelets.
To attach the skirt to your caravan, you can use suitable adhesive hooks along the van and slip the eyelets over them, or mechanically attach hooks to your van if you prefer a more permanent setup.
The lightweight PVC mesh can also be cut without fraying, making it easy to create an opening around your caravan door if required. Depending on where it is cut, additional eyelets may need to be added to give the mesh adequate support.
Where can I view Fido Fence in person?
We’re based in Hobart, Tasmania, and locals are more than welcome to arrange to see Fido Fence in person!
For those further afield, there is a detailed video walkthrough on our website and social media showing the fence, how it works and how to set it up.
Does Fido Fence have a gate?
Fido Fence doesn’t have a separate gate — instead, any panel connection can become your entry point.
Once your panel is connected to its receiver, the panel can be locked off using the locking lever so it won’t retract when disconnected.
To get in or out, simply press the release button at the receiver, disconnect the panel, step through, then reconnect it. Quick and easy, without needing a separate gate built into your setup.
My dog leans against the fence. Will it sag?
Fido Fence has been designed with reinforced fibreglass rods positioned every 500mm along the mesh. These provide additional support and help prevent the panel from sagging if your dog puts their paws up against it.
That said, Fido Fence is a portable containment system rather than a rigid fence, so we don’t recommend allowing dogs to continually lean their full weight against the mesh. The size and weight of your dog will naturally make a difference too — a larger, heavier dog leaning against the fence will put more pressure on the system than a smaller dog.
The ground you’re camping on can also make a difference. Pegs will naturally hold more securely in firm ground than in very soft or loose soil. If your setup needs a little extra support, guy ropes can also be added to the poles to help stabilise the fence.
What is the lead time?
When in stock our lead time is approximately 2–6 weeks from the time your order has been placed and payment has been received.
Once your Fido Fence is ready, your order will be sent via Aramex and tracking details will be provided.
Currently we are waiting on new stock that is set to arrive in early December.
Does the fence need to be fully extended when set up?
Not at all! Each Fido Fence panel can extend up to 3 metres, but it doesn’t need to be used at its full length.
You can extend each panel to whatever length you need, up to the 3 metre maximum. This gives you plenty of flexibility to adjust your setup to suit the space available at each campsite.
How much space will we have inside the fence once it is set up?
The amount of enclosed space will depend on which Fido Fence setup you choose and how you arrange your panels.
Our Small Setup can create an area of approximately 9m², while our Large Setup can create approximately 18m². Additional panels can also be added if you’d like to create a larger enclosed area.
One of the great things about Fido Fence is that your setup doesn’t have to be a square or rectangle. Each panel can be positioned to create a shape that works best for your campsite.
For example, you can arrange the panels so that part of your enclosed area sits over your camping mat, while another section extends out onto the grass or surrounding ground. This gives you a comfortable space to sit and relax, while still giving your dogs an area of their own to enjoy.
Can I use Fido Fence on bitumen or concrete?
No. Fido Fence is designed to be used on surfaces where the poles can be securely pegged into the ground, such as grass or suitable soil. It is not suitable for use on concrete, bitumen or other hard surfaces that cannot be pegged down.
What kind of pegs should I use to secure my Fido Fence?
We recommend using screw-in tent pegs to securely anchor your Fido Fence to the ground.
Each pole has a 10 mm diameter hole, so any screw-in tent peg that fits through this hole will work.
How many pegs do I need?
Each pole requires four pegs to secure it to the ground. Make sure all poles are properly pegged down before using your fence.
